Crumbling Bridges

In both human and economic costs the collapse of the I-40 bridge near Webbers Falls ranks as one of the worst river disasters in Oklahoma history. Yet many argue that the bridge could have withstood the impact had it been built in accordance with modern structural standards. Oklahoma bridges are aging, in fact, nearly a quarter of all the bridges in Oklahoma were built in the 1930s. With weight limits, that at best, limit commerce and at worst can be dangerous.
