Immigration Nation (View Video)

Nearly all of us can trace some of our lineage to immigrants and while every family tree has a different story, most roots here in Oklahoma are less than a century old. Yet what we have seen in the past decade is a dramatic increase in immigration. And nowhere has that growth been more dramatic than in the Oklahoma panhandle. We look at how the influx of immigrants looking for work has impacted the town of Guymon.

Since 1990, our state has seen close to a doubling of our immigrant population. Oklahoma is now home to about one hundred thirty-two thousand foreign born residents. And of these, the immigration and naturalization service estimates about fifty thousand are illegal aliens. Many coming here to work in agricultural related jobs.
